Island Health’s Department of Emergency Medicine invites certified emergency physicians to apply to join our progressive, collegial group in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island.
The West Coast General Hospital is seeking part-time and full-time Emergency Medicine Physicians. West Coast General Hospital, constructed in 2001, with 54 acute care beds and a 3-bed ICU, is a modern facility that incorporates a unique and inviting design complete with an indoor atrium.
Services include a newly renovated 24-hour emergency room, ambulatory care, acute medical/surgical and psychiatry services, cardio pulmonary, diabetes education, laboratory, medical imaging ( new CT scanner), nutrition counseling, pharmacy, occupational therapy, SLP, social work and physiotherapy services. Clinical specialists include anesthesiology, general surgery, urology, geriatrics, psychiatry, obstetrics/gynecology, internal medicine, pediatrics and radiology complete with PACs imaging system.
The successful candidate would have the option of applying to cover a small number of shifts at our regional Emergency Department in Nanaimo.
Academic affiliation with the University of British Columbia (UBC) postgraduate programs and the Island Medical School undergraduate programs is available.

Benefits:
May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including (subject to change):
- Recruitment Incentive: up to a maximum of $10,000 (pro-rated based on FTE)
- Relocation: up to a maximum of $15,000 (amount based on location relocating from)
- Flat fee: $12,366.72
- Fee Premium: 7.98%
- CME: $2,200/annum year 3-4 and $4,400/annum after 4 years in the community.
