Job Description:
The Royal College, in collaboration with the Office of Indigenous Health (OIH), are seeking an Indigenous Physician who wants to advance their career in academic medicine. This role involves working within the Royal College to facilitate the advancement of Indigenous Health in postgraduate medical education (PGME) and specialist physician practice. The OIH leads development and implementation of IH in assessment, accreditation, and curriculum.
As the Assessment lead in the Office of Indigenous Health at the Royal College, this educator will primarily provide support and expertise on Indigenous health in exam content and development of examiner needs and process.
This is a part-time role, 7.5 hours approximately per week, with a per annum contract value of $25,000.
Responsibilities:
Assessment
- Lead the Royal College Indigenous Health Assessment Expert Working Group and Exam Question Writing Group;
- Advise on the content and delivery of Indigenous Health content on Royal College examinations;
- Work with Indigenous community, external partners, and cross-sectional teams within the Royal College to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate exam content and possible examiner training;
- Support establishing credentialing practices that affirm indigenous health knowledge for culturally safe care;
- Assist in identifying workplace-based assessment strategies for Indigenous health competencies;
- Support OIH Accreditation and Curriculum Indigenous Physician Educators;
- Report to the Director of Indigenous Health and the Indigenous Health Committee.
Virtual Meetings
- Meetings are scheduled according to your availability, recognizing that the candidate also has a physician practice and/or academic position;
- Provide leadership and direction as Chair of Indigenous Health Assessment Expert Working Group quarterly and Exam Question Writing Group as needed;
- Participate in IH-Expert Working Groups in Curriculum and Accreditation, quarterly each, monthly OIH Educator meetings, and biweekly meetings with OIH support staff;
- Meet with external partners, Assessment Committee, Credentials Committee, Examination Committee, Specialty Committees, Committee on Specialties and other groups as deemed appropriate.
Royal College Strategic Priorities
- Execute other projects that arise during the contract term as mutually agreed and endorsed by IHC;
- Advise on cultural safety and anti-racist practice at a health care practice level and at a RC institutional practices level (serve as a resource to RC staff);
- Serving as representative of OIH in Assessment.
Qualifications:
Desired candidate attributes
- Lived experience as an Indigenous person.
- Indigenous perspectives on health care combined with knowledge, comprehension and application of cultural safety within health care.
- Experience in developing and/or providing educational activities at the postgraduate or continuing professional development levels.
- Royal College Fellow or College of Family Physicians of Canada member.
