Indigenous Physician Educator

Location: Remote with twice annual travel to Ottawa (paid)
Pay range (hourly, salaried): $25,000 salary
Employment type: Part-time, approx. 7.5 hours/week, 1 year contract with potential to extend
Hours for position: 1 day per week

Responsibilities:

  • Design and advise on the content and delivery of culturally safe Royal College curriculum,
  • Be a resource to support the integration of Indigenous Health competencies in the next iteration of CanMEDs,
  • Facilitate development of materials and support for faculty development and teaching Indigenous Health competencies and assessment/evaluation.
  • Provide leadership and direction as Co-Chair of Indigenous Health Education Committee Expert Working Groups in curriculum;
  • Participate in IH-Expert Working Groups in Curriculum, Specialty Committees, Committee on Specialties and other groups as deemed appropriate and;
  • Facilitate development of materials and support for faculty development and teaching Indigenous Health competencies and curriculum;
  • Execute other projects that arise during the contract term as mutually agreed and endorsed by IHC;
  • Advise on cultural safety and anti-racist practice at a health care practice level and at a RC institutional practices level (serve as a resource to RC staff);
  • Serving as representative of OIH by presenting Indigenous health concepts nationally (e.g. webinars, conference presentations

Qualifications:

  • Lived experience as an Indigenous person.
  • Indigenous perspectives on health care combined with knowledge, comprehension and application of cultural safety within health care.
  • Experience with development in medical education. We welcome applications from Indigenous candidates at any stage of their career. The Royal College Learning and Practice Improvement unit will provide support and guidance (e.g. staff support, mentor) as needed, recognizing this is an opportunity for professional development in the burgeoning area of Indigenous health in medical education.
