Royal College is on an exciting journey of enhancing value for our members and society and is seeking a thought leader in medical education, a Fellow in good standing of the Royal College to join the leadership team. Closing date: February 9, 2025. 

Today, the Royal College has over 55,000 members and the vision remains to advance the learning for specialist physicians to deliver the best health care for all.  The Royal College partners and collaborates to lead the evolution of specialty medical education and standards; support specialist physicians, learners and teams to continuously improve; and advocate for excellence in specialty medicine by supporting innovation, well-being, equity and person-centered care. We are a national, nonprofit organization established in 1929 by a special Act of Parliament to oversee the medical education of specialists in Canada.  

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Office of Learning and Connecting and working closely with the Associate Director, Learning Strategy, the Principal CPD Strategist is a thought leader in medical education and contributes to policies, programs, frameworks and offerings of Royal College learning across the continuum. Collaboratively with leadership, the Principal CPD Strategist contributes to the quality and evolution of Royal College’s lifelong learning strategy (including member engagement), setting of standards and learning frameworks, research and scholarships, and partnerships.

Through insights gained in connections with members and partners, as well as lived experience in the specialist healthcare system, the Principal CPD Strategist will provide expertise to leadership on current and future learning trends and needs impacting the design of learning frameworks, policies, programs and offerings at Royal College. The Principal CPD Strategist will complement and collaborate with the Learning team to continuously enhance the Royal College’s learning program/offering to be responsive to members while also meeting the needs of partners in the broader specialist healthcare system. The Principal CPD Strategist will represent the Royal College and its learning initiatives to strengthen the Royal College’s connection with members and the CPD system by establishing and maintaining alliances, partnerships, linkages, collaborations and communications with interest holders, key opinion leaders and system leaders in the medical education system in Canada and abroad. The Principal CPD Strategist will provide content expertise related to learning including formal and informal discussions amongst clinician educators, physician advisors and Royal College employees to strengthen approaches to CPD/learning.

Qualifications:
Does this sound like you?

  • A medical doctor (MD) and completion of a relevant residency program.
  • A Fellow of the Royal College.
  • Level of education, training and experience equivalent to a master’s degree in education or relevant field. 
  • A thought leader in medical education with a full understanding of theories relevant to lifelong learning.
  • A recognized professional in continuing professional development with experience developing curricula, leading and facilitating learning programs, events and activities, and evaluating programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute and promote the future vision of learning across the continuum at the Royal College including in collaboration with other thought leaders and ecosystem partners.
  • Five years of demonstrated leadership skills and experience in lifelong learning at a senior or national level. 
  • Exemplary communication skills.
  • Ability to travel (internationally and domestically) up to six times per year, a few days in duration. 
  • Ability and willingness to work 3-4 days a week including extended or irregular hours.

    Assets:
  • Bilingualism (French and English).
  • Level of education, training and experience equivalent to a PhD in health professions education.
  • Demonstrated scholarship in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) or medical education in general.

Annual Salary – Salary ranges from $176,772 to $247,262.
