Through her keynote, Beyond Survival: Cultivating Joy, Strength, and Connection in Medicine, explores what it means to move beyond survival in medicine and toward practices grounded in joy, strength, and relationship.

Join Ryan and Shelley for an engaging session that blends Métis cultural teachings with the energy and movement of Powwow fitness. Participants will learn about the history, stories, and traditions embedded in Métis culture while taking part in an accessible, high-energy workout suitable for all levels. This session offers a joyful way to connect with culture, movement, and community—come ready to learn, dance, and have fun. Please bring loose fitting clothes and comfy shoes.

Join Jamaica, Kayla, and Emma for a hands-on beading session that welcomes all skill levels—from first-time beaders to those continuing their craft. Participants will learn foundational techniques and create their own piece in a supportive, relaxed setting. Come connect, create, and spend time in a space that celebrates artistry, tradition, and community.

Tools for Thriving in Leadership
Join Drs. Nel Weiman, Suzanne Shoush, Marlyn Cook and Jae Ford for this meaningful session where residents and medical students can expect a welcoming space to learn directly from Indigenous members. Mentors will share the tools, insights, and lessons they wish they’d had during training, offering practical advice on navigating leadership through medicine, finding support, and maintaining balance. This gathering provides meaningful connection, shared experience, and the chance to ask questions and gain guidance from those who have already walked this path.

Join Dr. Karenna’onwe (Gaw-law-naw-oo-way) Hill, a Mohawk physician from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, and Dr. Don Wilson, a member of the Heiltsuk Nation, for a powerful breakout session on the integration of Traditional Medicine in modern healthcare. Dr. Hill and Dr. Wilson will share their insights on how Indigenous healing practices, rooted in cultural traditions and the natural world, complement and enhance contemporary medical approaches. This session will explore the importance of blending Western medicine with Indigenous knowledge to foster holistic healing, respect for the land, and a deeper understanding of health and wellness.

Helen Pelletier, an Anishinaabe knowledge holder from Fort William First Nation, will facilitate medicine walks that explore the cultural, medicinal, and relational gifts of maple and birch on the land at Anemki Wajiw.

Guests can also visit our Indigenous artisans area to browse and shop beautiful, locally made creations, or spend this time walking, visiting, and reconnecting with one another, the territory, and the teachings carried by this place.
