Strengthening Allyship in Action: Walking Alongside in Medicine

Hosted in partnership with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Office of Indigenous Health, this workshop is designed as an accessible starting point for learning, reflection, and action for those new to, or early in, their allyship journey. Through facilitated discussion and interactive activities, participants will reflect on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action #23 and the role we all play in improving environments for medical learning and access to healthcare.
Together, we will explore introductory best practices for meaningfully engaging Indigenous colleagues and communities, including thoughtful approaches to honouring key days of significance. Participants will gain practical tools for practicing allyship in clinical and educational settings, with a focus on relationship‑building grounded in respect.
This workshop is ideal if you are beginning to explore allyship in healthcare, seeking a supportive space to engage with foundational concepts in Indigenous health, or looking for practical starting points for moving towards greater awareness, accountability, and action.
Target Audience:
Healthcare professionals, physicians, medical learners, and administrators who are committed to reconciliation and want to strengthen allyship through reflection and collaborative action.

Virtual Workshop: Strengthening Allyship in Action

Location: Virtual (Zoom)
Hosted in partnership with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Office of Indigenous Health, this interactive workshop created space for participants to learn about foundational concepts in Indigenous health and reflect on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action #23.
Through dialogue and guided discussion, participants explored ways to strengthen allyship, build respectful relationships with Indigenous colleagues and communities, and contribute to more equitable medical learning environments and healthcare systems.

Virtual Workshop: Strengthening Allyship in Action

In honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, these 90-minute virtual workshops brought together physicians, healthcare professionals, learners, and administrators to reflect on the legacy of residential schools and the ongoing responsibility of reconciliation.
Participants explored practical tools for meaningful allyship, learned thoughtful ways to honour Survivors and their families, and discussed how to move beyond symbolic gestures toward lasting change within healthcare and education.

In honour of National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, we hosted a two-hour virtual workshop focused on strengthening allyship in action. This gathering was an opportunity to celebrate the strengths and achievements of Indigenous Peoples in Canada while reflecting on our individual and collective roles in reconciliation.
Designed for allies such as physicians, healthcare professionals, medical learners, and administrators, the session offered practical tools for respectfully honouring the day and building stronger relationships with Indigenous colleagues and communities.
