Your anesthesia skills will serve as a local gateway to all surgical subspecialties. Procedures within your scope will be well-supported by our local OR team, and there is an opportunity to scrub in with visiting surgical specialists. Your practice may include open or laparoscopic surgeries across various specialties, including general surgery, urology, orthopedics, plastics, and gynecology. There are two ORs running a day with one on call anesthetist who covers urgent ORs, consults from the ED, and labour and delivery. Stanton Territorial Hospital has general surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics/gynecology, urology, ophthalmology and ENT surgical cases. Edmonton is our referral centre for specialized care.

Yellowknife is a beautiful place to work and visit in the summer, with midnight sun, a fantastic collegial atmosphere and a modern OR. In the winter, the Northern lights, snow castles, and endless outdoor adventures fulfill your outdoor needs. Our full-time team consists of ESS Physicians, FP-Anesthetists, and General Practitioners, along with Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedic Surgery, General Surgery, ENT, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology and Psychiatry.

We preferentially hire staff physicians with FP-A training but do occasionally have locum opportunities for FRCP anesthesiologists. Typically, locum durations are at least 1 week, though we invite physicians who would like to locum for longer durations! We are pleased to announce increased daily rates of pay for service, including premium rates for night shifts, and new incentives for locums who provide more than 75 days of service within the NWT. We also provide travel stipends, travel support, and accommodations. There is no practice overhead or management.
