Job Description:
The Department of Medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital, in conjunction with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine,
University of Toronto, is seeking a qualified full-time academic gastroenterologist with a focus on advanced
therapeutic endoscopy. The candidate will have an academic position description of Clinician Investigator
(CI) and must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or
Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The expected start date of the position is January 1 2026, or
shortly before or thereafter.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will hold an MD degree (or equivalent) and should have, or be eligible for,
certification in Gastroenterology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure
with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The St. Michael’s advanced therapeutic
endoscopy group is internationally recognized for their work in advanced therapeutic endoscopy including
diagnostic and interventional EUS, ERCP, Third space endoscopy, advanced tissue resection and double
balloon enteroscopy.

The successful candidate must have a minimum of 3 years fellowship training in advanced therapeutic
endoscopy and proven experience and expertise in advanced tissue resection including EMR and ESD, third
space endoscopy, diagnostic and therapeutic EUS and ERCP. The successful candidate must have specific
training in and clinical experience in the management of Barrett’s esophagus including surveillance, the
management of dysplasia including ablation (RFA and or cryotherapy) and resection (EMR and ESD). The
successful candidate will have demonstrated research excellence in therapeutic endoscopy by a doctoral
(PhD) degree and first or senior authored publications. The successful applicant will participate in the GI
divisional call schedule and inpatient consult service. Further inpatient and outpatient clinical activities will
be discussed with the successful candidate.

In addition to being a skilled advanced therapeutic endoscopist, the successful candidate will participate in
the educational programs in Gastroenterology at St. Michael’s Hospital and the University of Toronto and
lead or collaborate in clinical research and quality improvement programs. The successful candidate will

The successful candidate will report to the Head, Division of Gastroenterology at St. Michael’s Hospital. The
Division currently consists of 8 full time gastroenterologists and provides comprehensive GI care including
advanced therapeutic endoscopy and general GI endoscopy as well as outpatient and inpatient care.
Members of the Division are internationally recognized in clinical research, and participate fully in the
undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs at the University of Toronto. All divisional members
work from St. Michael’s Hospital, 30 Bond St, Toronto, Ontario.

Estimated remuneration will be commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience, and is
estimated to be in the range of $400,000 to $700,000 per annum based on an Alternate Funding Plan and
fee for service billings payable through the SMPA Admin Agent Inc. A comprehensive extended health and
dental benefit program is included. The successful candidate may be eligible for relocation benefits. All
candidates must be able to function proficiently in English.
