The Faculty Lead, Disability Community Health serves in this capacity for the York University School of Medicine. The Faculty Lead, Disability Community Health plays a role in advising how to integrate disability health content into Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME). This role focuses on addressing the healthcare needs, barriers, and inequities faced by the disability community, promoting an inclusive and culturally competent approach to care. Reporting to the Dean of Record, School of Medicine, the Faculty Lead works in collaboration with committee members to support the integration of the complexities of disability health, advocacy, and accessibility in healthcare in the UGME curriculum. The Faculty Lead will provide recommendations on how to prepare future physicians to provide compassionate and equitable care to persons with disabilities. The role demonstrates a commitment to promoting decolonization, equity, diversity, and inclusion in medical education and fostering a culture of excellence, professionalism, and lifelong learning.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will bring the following:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • Master’s Degree in a related field.
  • Regulated Health Professional (registered and in good standing with the respective College)

Please note: This position requires verification of required degrees, training and credentials.

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience with community relations in the Disability communities and who, via experience and/or expertise, can provide guidance on curriculum, admissions and research. Lived experience strongly preferred.

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Knowledge of disability community health, including the diverse needs and challenges faced by individuals with physical, intellectual, developmental, sensory, and mental health disabilities.
  • Knowledge of healthcare disparities, barriers, and inequities affecting the disability community and strategies to address them.
  • Expertise in culturally competent care principles, especially in relation to disability community health and accessibility.
  • Familiarity with curriculum development in medical education, particularly in integrating topics on disability, inclusivity, and advocacy.
  • Knowledge of interdisciplinary approaches to disability community health, promoting collaboration with other health disciplines.
  • Understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and decolonization principles as they apply to medical education and healthcare delivery.
  • Knowledge of York University’s mission and commitment to diversity and inclusive education.
