Short Job Description (External Link with Full Job Description):
Are you an ophthalmologist looking for a supportive team without the hassles of running your own practice? Does the idea of a salaried contract, recruitment bonuses, generous benefits (including retirement benefits), paid CME, and relocation assistance sound attractive to you? Come to the NWT and work in rewarding rural and remote communities.
The NWT Ophthalmologist works out of the Eye Clinic and Stanton Territorial Hospital in Yellowknife. They train, supervise, and manage a team of ophthalmic technologists, have guaranteed weekly OR time, and take part in a generally relaxed call schedule.
The teaching opportunities are numerous throughout the year. The Ophthalmologist supports an accredited two-year Ophthalmic Medical Technician Training Program for new techs in coordination with the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA). We also host the University of Alberta ophthalmology residents during elective placements. This is a great way to share a passion for ophthalmology while supporting the next generation of professionals! There is excellent subspecialty support from Edmonton including retinal teleophthalmology services and in-house monthly clinics with a retinal specialist in Yellowknife.
Qualifications:
Typically, these positions require RCPSC certification and must be eligible for licensure to practice in the Northwest Territories.
