We are inviting applications for the position of Vice Dean, Clinical Academic Affairs (CAA). As a member of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry Vice-Decanal leadership team, the Vice-Dean, CAA is the senior faculty member who provides high level linkages between Schulich Medicine & Dentistry Senior Leadership Council (SLC) and the senior leadership of the School’s partners (including, but not limited to, London Health Sciences Centre, St. Joseph’s Health Care London, Windsor Regional Hospital and Hôtel Dieu Grace Healthcare).
The Vice Dean, CAA will provide leadership and be a key resource for clinical departments and clinical Chairs. They will lead a number of processes and initiatives for clinical faculty including, but not limited to: academic promotion process; professionalism; wellbeing; continuing professional development; faculty and leadership development and learner experience. The Vice Dean, CAA will provide advice and guidance to Faculty Affairs and clinical departments regarding College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) matters. The incumbent is also expected to work collaboratively with Schulich leaders to advance the social accountability priority of Schulich.
The incumbent will play a lead role in stewarding the relationships between Schulich Medicine & Dentistry and the regional health authorities with which Schulich Medicine & Dentistry interacts. They will represent from time to time the Dean at Western University, at hospital meetings, other external agencies, and in provincial commitments as related to faculty or health system interactions.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate should have demonstrated a strong track record of leadership, research, education and clinical care excellence with a proven reputation for effective interpersonal and administrative skills. They will possess significant demonstrated senior administrative leadership with particular strengths in the areas of engagement, communication, collaboration, quality improvement, service delivery, performance excellence, and program management structures. They will have a demonstrated record as an established scholar.
The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience with regulatory agencies such as CPSO, RCPSC and CFPC. Knowledge of the legal frameworks including appropriate contracts and hospital by-laws will be an asset. Knowledge and experience in policy development will also be an asset.
They will preferably be an academic clinician and hold, at minimum, an MD or equivalent; be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario in accordance with the appropriate licensing body and must be certified, or eligible for certification as a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or the College
of Family Physicians of Canada. Candidates will preferably be at the academic rank of Associate or Full Professor with a track record of sustained scholarship in medical education or research and have substantial administrative experience in medical education or health leadership.
The successful candidate will be appointed in a continuing (Clinical Academic) appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in a department at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.
Compensation Details:
The Clinical Academic appointment compensation will be composed of primarily the following sources: fee for service, alternate funding plan, and academic support. Compensation for the Vice Dean, CAA role will be in alignment with standardized funding for Academic Clinical Leaders.
Term: The position is an initial 5-year term, normally renewable once.
