Join us to serve the living through high-quality death investigations.
Do you have an interest in death investigation, a curious mind, and a strong commitment to public safety and community well-being? Are you committed to building respectful partnerships with health care organizations, investigation services, academic institutions, Indigenous Peoples and diverse communities to help advance Ontario’s death investigation system through collaboration? If you thrive in a multidisciplinary, high-profile environment and enjoy applying your communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills in meaningful ways, consider this impactful opportunity as Regional Supervising Coroner with the Office of the Chief Coroner (OCC), Ministry of the Solicitor General, serving the Northeast region, based in Sudbury.
Why Sudbury and the Northeast Region?
Sudbury is home to our regional office and is closely connected to the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service’s work in the North. The intersection between coroner services and forensic pathology is strong here, supporting timely, coordinated, and high quality investigations.
The Northeast is unique. Case complexity can be higher due to local factors and social determinants of health, such as remoteness, access to care, and community safety factors. Major transportation corridors (e.g., Highway 11/17) and winter conditions also shape the investigative landscape.
Local knowledge matters. We strongly encourage applications from physicians who are based in Sudbury or have ties to Northern Ontario. Community credibility, lived experience, and understanding of the North help build trust with families, First Nations communities, and co investigators.
